Brooke Kidd (Executive Director and Founder) is a choreographer, producer
and dance educator. She has 14 years of experience in integrating her study of world performance traditions into a larger strategy for arts education and community development. She has performed, directed and taught nationally. Brooke is a former Mt. Rainier City Council member and currently serves on the board of the Cultural Alliance of Greater Washington, D.C.
David Robinson-Slemp, Development Director assists with the implementation of a capital campaign strategy and in the development of financial resources for the organization’s larger programs. He holds a graduate degree in theological studies from Vanderbilt University, where concentrated in historical-critical theories of religion and ethics within the context of Jewish-Christian dialogue. As part of his research, he worked with faith-based charities to study their role in building a civil society. Mr. Slemp has been working in the area of fundraising and resource development for the past six years. His previous work experience has included corporate and foundation relations, major gifts, and charitable estate planning.
LaTanya Robinson, Arts Education Coordinator is a licensed child-care provider in the State of Maryland. She began working with the organization in the winter of 2004. She has seven years experience with youth mentoring and development programs, and she has spent four years working with summer arts camps. In addition to serving as coordinator of the Arts Education Program, Mrs. Robinson has worked with other nonprofit organizations that provide outreach and mentorship programs to underprivileged children living in the Washington, D.C. area.
Romnee M. Childs, Program Director & Director of Joe's Moving Company was born in New York City. She graduated from LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts and earned a BFA in dance from The Ohio State University. Upon graduation she joined The Philadelphia Dance Company (Philadanco) where she performed nationally and internationally. Romnee moved to the DC area four years ago, and performed as a member of Washington Reflections Dance Company, in their first two seasons. She also performed with Dancesmith. Romnee has performed some musical theater as an ensemble member in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. Romnee has enjoyed performing works by several great choreographers such as Bebe Miller, Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, Donald Byrd, Daniel Ezralow, Hinton Battle, Terri O’ Connor, Thaddeus Davis, Zane Booker, Roger C. Jeffrey, Pat Catterson, Milton Myers, Gene Hill Sagan, Fred Benjamin, Elisa Monte, Nathan Trice, Laila Sales, Talley Beatty, Victoria Uris, Jamel Gaines, Igal Perry, Elisa King, Christopher Huggins to name a few. Romnee is the Program Director at Joe’s movement Emporium, and the Director of Joe’s Moving Company, Joe’s Movement Emporium’s youth performing ensemble. She is enjoying her freelance career as a performer and choreographer.
Ayo Ngozi, Community Productions Coordinator holds an M.A. in African and African American Studies from Cornell University and a B.A. in Mass Media Arts from Hampton University. She has worked at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History as a programmer for Diversity Seminars; at Songtalk Publishing as a representative for Bernice Johnson Reagon; as a supervisor at the John Henrik Clarke Africana Library; and as an arts and community activist. Ayo's mixed-media and performance artworks are shown frequently.
Afi Zormelo-Rougeau, Community Engagement Coordinator graduated from Bard College in New York with a BA in Anthropology with a concentration in Religious Studies. She has training in Conflict Resolution and Leadership Development and holds workshops on both topics. Her goal at Joe’s is to focus relationships between Joes and schools, from elementary to the university level, sharing resources and developing a base of volunteers. Ms. Zormelo-Rougeau also works part-time with Club Joe’s.
Malori Rhones, Marketing Coordinator is a graduate of Lincoln University with a Bachelor of Science in English Communications. She has performed with Coyaba Dance Theater, a professional West African dance company, locally, nationally, and internationally for over eight years. In 2000 she helped to found the Dance Place Step Team. Although she no longer performs with the group she often returns as guest choreographer. Currently she teaches Step to the Club Joe's participants, and for the Best Friends Foundation.
Suzy Wald, Teen Advisor / 3-D Productions joined Joe’s Movement Emporium in the fall of 2007 to coordinate Joe’s teen entertainment series, 3-D Productions. The objectives are to expose our youth population to art and live performance, cultivating their ability to participate as an appreciative audience, and spotlight their own talents. For the previous four years, Suzy served as Executive Director, Program Coordinator and Instructor for Ancestral Knowledge, Inc., a local nonprofit organization, that teaches the survival skills of indigenous peoples through experiential education. She currently serves on the Ancestral Knowledge Board of Directors. Suzy spent three years designing volunteer environmental restoration projects and coordinating smart growth education for professional contractors and engineers of the DC Department of the Environment, Watershed Protection Division. Her work with youth and the environment was inspired by a long-term mentoring position, that was as a part of a collaboration among the Potomac River Commission, the Maryland Conservation Corps, and Prince George’s Department of Economic Development. In this position, Suzy worked with a team of five to mentor three crews of 10 to 12 high school boys in a youth employment program which combined environmental education on local issues pertaining to the Anacostia River, with on-the-ground urban stream restoration works.
