Romance on the Silk Road
Building bridges instead of walls, a dance concert celebrates the shared human experience of love and desire.
For 22 years, Silk Road Dance Company has provided a rare glimpse into the traditional cultures of the Middle East and Central Asia, especially women's dances of Iran. The local ensemble has won awards and recognition for the beauty and artistry of their productions, both locally and internationally. Founding Artistic Director, Dr. Laurel Victoria Gray, first learned Iranian dances from immigrants who fled after the 1979 Islamic Revolution that banned public performances of dance. "Dance is the most ephemeral of the arts," maintains Gray. "It can be lost in a generation when there is no way to pass it on. These graceful, joyous dances are now part of the rich cultural diversity that makes America great," she affirmed.
Please join us at Joe's Movement Emporium for a benefit for the Silk Road Dance Company. In an intimate evening of ancient and contemporary dances of Love and Desire from cultures of the Silk Road, guests will enjoy a delicious dessert bar, a live auction of Silk Road treasures and experience dances of Persian, Tajik, Azeri, Uzbek, Uyghur, Georgian, of Arabic origin.
Tickets are $20 advance; $25 at door
