ON STAGE AT JOE’S
Resilient Cultures is a season of social innovation and awareness connected through dance, music and theatre. Joe’s focus this season is presenting works that investigate the role of the arts within the cultural, creative and political transformation of our community and at large. By presenting local artists who focus on issues surrounding the community, the work On Stage at Joe’s this season shares the microphone for the macro conversation within the re-visioning of America. Many of the experiences on the stage will be supported by experiences in the studio. Join artists this season as they share their creative process, craft, methods and artful wisdom.
Many of the artists On Stage at Joe’s will provide amazing engagement activities. You will be able to dance, sing and reflect on the artistry that fuels their performance work, such as a Community Sing with Taratibu Youth Association’s harmonies in Zulu and Swahili. Or explore the interactive performance installation by multimedia artist Yoko K. Some of the performances will ask the audience to participate. All of these presented events seek to reinforce our common bonds and honor the traditions maintained by these fine artists. Families will also have an opportunity to particpate in Creative Saturdays programs to meet artists and participate in their craft.
I hope you will enjoy the 2018-2019 season and come away with a deepened understanding of the history of our artists, the role they play in anchoring culture for our community, and the power of live performance experiences.
