New: Creative Saturdays brings Family Fun to the Arts
Creative Saturdays give children ages 6 – 12 the experience of working with a talented local artist and learning the ins and outs of a new art form in a creative and stimulating way!
Children ages 6 – 12 welcome with their accompanying adult. Cost is $10 per child, adults are free. Fun for the whole family!

January 5th from 1 – 3 pm
Beloved Joe’s art teachers Clara Majors brings visual and performing arts training and traditions from her home country of Peru to this week’s Creative Saturday event. Clara’s passion for upcycling finds beauty in the most mundane. Old CDs, styrofoam trays, odd buttons, and scraps of wood are transformed into something magical under Clara’s direction! This class may get messy – so dress accordingly!
January 12, 2019 from 1 – 3 pm
Experience the rich culture of West Africa with this treasured DC dance company. Soul in Motion provides instruments that are accessible even to the teeniest drummers. Your child will be swept up in the colorful costumes, spirited movements, and energetic drumming rhythms of this expert ensemble. The sense of connection and belonging that comes from a session of drumming together is inspiring for all ages.
January 19th from 1 – 3 pm
Popular Club Joe’s Aftercare instructor James Fleet introduces children to the precise rhythmic and percussive movement of Step. Stepping is based on a long and rich tradition in African-based communities that use movement, words, and sounds to communicate allegiance to a group. Dress prepared to move!
January 26th from 1- 3 pm
There is nothing kids at Joe’s love more than watching Rakeem Delwin perform his famous Michael Jackson routine. Kids will love learning the smooth moves from King of Pop. It’s highly encouraged to dress in homage to Michael Jackson with a single white glove, skinny pants, shiny shoes, and fedoras!
