A native of a small town in the Dominican Republic (Villa Altagracia), Watatah [pronounced watatá], is an international urban recording artist characterized by his explosiveness and energy and his characteristic famous shout "Watatah!" which instantly transports a shock wave of electricity and fun to his audience, both through his studio recordings as well as in his live shows, both in nightclubs and fitness clubs. He defines his stage name as “Energy, Fire, and Joy”.

Watatah dreams were to bring his music and culture to the masses. While working at a fast food restaurant he kept developing his craft by making music with kitchen utensils which people used to enjoy. There he also developed a unique talent to "scratch" only with his mouth, a talent to be seen to be believed. Actually the latter tends to pass unnoticed because the recordings sound like an experienced DJ did the "scratches". He names Sergio Vargas, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson, Juan Luis Guerra, Busta Rhymes, Rahzel as some of the artists that influenced his career.

Established as a Merengue powerhouse and with great influence of reggae, soca and hip-hop, his free inventive and fresh musical approach have placed him at the top in the popular taste. Tracks like "Palo", "Te mordi tu mujer", "Que buena tu ‘ta" and "A beber" are some of the songs that raised him to prominence in New York city radio and Latin countries all over the world, not without honor-mention the controversial cut "The Sammy Sosa Dembow" that generated a lot of buzz among fans and in the media. Unbeknown to him or his record label, something else was happening with his music in the fitness world and that door have proven it has been all worth it to open it. Say hello to the “Fiah Fiah!” era.

Presently with an enhanced knowledge in fitness dancing, The Fiah Lion has taken his game to the next level. His music have become a fans favorite in the Zumba and dance fitness community, songs like “Zumba Time” ‘Sacudelo”, “No Excuses”, “Yo vine a bailar”, “Ready to go” and “Bunda”, have propelled his status as an international and crossover star. Watatah continues to tour and has appeared in national powerhouse television networks Univision (Despierta America) and Telemundo (Un Nuevo Dia & Acceso Total). He has been part of the most prestigious celebration in fitness, the Zumba Convention in Orlando and has collaborated with lots of the big names in the process. Watatah is a pioneer in the fitness world as the first artist to incorporate a live music act in a workout session, feat that can only be seen at such convention. Notable to mention is the WORLD MASHUPS videos, which consist of having people from different countries dancing to the same song all in the same video; Watatah calls this thread “Linking The World Thru One Song”. Watatah has also taken on a community quest by going to schools promoting a more active and healthy lifestyle for the children by doing exercise and dancing.

His debut album “Quien Diablos Es Watatah?" was nominated for the 2009 Latin Grammy Awards, making him the first urban merengue artist to accomplish that feat. Watatah has also a roster of successful remixes with Alexis & Fido, Fulanito, Proyecto Uno, Rinal Klein, Scarlett Santana, Brook Penning (Both C+C Music Factory acts), among others. Now as the captain of LOS MATATANES, Mr. Russo is determined to continue settling up his catalog and put the world to enjoy his innovative creations. His 2 latest releases (Hit The Dancefloor - No Excuses & #FiahFiah: The Dancefloor Arsonist) are mostly directed to the fitness world but still carries the flavor to make the world dance.

"I have always felt that music has no limit, so there are no boundaries to create. My satisfaction comes true when I see the audience singing, dancing and enjoying my songs, even when they don’t understand the lyrics, it’s an amazing feeling”.

Fun, energetic and dynamic, Watatah is one of those phenomena that occurs from time to time and promises permeate the popular taste as he has been doing worldwide. Take a ride on the Urban Bus! "
