Hot Joe's Summer is BACK! Mount Rainier's favorite concert series is heating up summer '25 with local artists, live band shows, artisans, craft and food vendors, and more!
Joe's is bringing back our summer favorites, including Proverbs Reggae Band and Pan Masters Steel Orchestra, to an outdoor festival series for the entire community to enjoy. Hot Joe's Summer Festival is complete with live music and opening acts, community class demos, a summer market, and more. Stay cool in the summer heat with our vegan-friendly ice dessert vendor, Kreative Ice Dessert Shop!

“Roots Rock Reggae”
A celebration of Rasta culture, conscious lyrics, and the healing power of reggae music. This opening night uplifts the spirit through rhythm, word, and community connection.

Proverbs Reggae Band is a positive unique, rootz reggae band utilizing strong lyrical content and musical expressions to uplift Rasta livity. Proverbs is the only reggae band in the DC Metropolitan area to maintain the authentic sound of Rasta Roots Reggae Music.
Specializing in social consciousness, the band endeavors to promote ancient wisdom through the art of music, thereby spreading the spiritual message of JAH RASTAFARI through word, power, and sound.

Amuchechukwu Nwafor (Amuche The Poet) is a DC based writer, performance artist, host, event curator, and teaching artist. She is a first-generation born Black American whose poetry touches on the diaspora, sexual advocacy, mental health, and the female experience. Amuche considers her poems to be still life paintings of intimate experiences, emotions and observations. She has performed her work at numerous places including Towson University, the University of the District of Columbia, and the Kennedy Center. Her debut collection of poetry, Salt Water Roots, was published in October 2024 in collaboration with the DC Poet Project and the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. Through her writing, she aspires to heal, gro,w and inspire people from all different walks of life. Find her on Instagram at @amuchethepoet.

The Urban Nation H.I.P.-H.O.P. Choir of Washington, DC was founded by Dr. Sheila Johnson Newman and Dr. Rickey Payton, Sr., who leads the group. H.I.P.-H.O.P. stands for Hope, Integrity, Power – Helping Our People, reflecting the choir’s mission to empower youth ages 13 to 18 through music and mentorship. By performing a range of styles—from spirituals and gospel to hip hop and classical—the choir fosters cultural awareness, academic excellence, and community engagement.a

Grupo Fénix is a Washington, D.C.–based collective of musicians focused on preserving and promoting musical genres from Mexican and other Latin American cultures. From rural son jarocho to urban mariachi styles and contemporary Caribbean rhythms, Grupo Fénix is an eclectic musical ensemble working to make the modern more traditional, and the traditional more modern.

WAYTA was formed in 2018 in the social justice movements of Washington D.C. Initially starting as part of a larger musical project during the Standing Rock (NoDAPL) solidarity movement, WAYTA was consolidated as a duo and began performing and arranging instrumental Andean music as a form of cultural resistance and community participation. Multi-instrumentalists Mazat and Gustavo make the duo WAYTA, a musical statement of unity for the Abya Yala.

Capoeira Malês Maryland (CMM) is a subgroup of Capoeira Malês supervised by Mestre (master) Curisco in Seattle, Washington. Originally from Brasil, Mestre Curisco has spread contemporary Capoeira through out the United States-- practicing for over 35 years. Capoeira Malês Maryland was founded to promote the art of Capoeira in Maryland and the DMV areas and bring the art to more people in the diaspora. The organization believes that Capoeira is a tool that empowers the spirit, while building a strong mind and body.
