Faerie Dance Performance at Joe’s Movement Emporium

alight dance theater returns to Joe’s with a family-friendly dance performance that includes a Joe’s student in the cast

Faerie returns to Joe’s Movement Emporium in Mount Rainier, MD to delight families – parents and children alike – with an escape into a mystical world on April 13-14, 2019. Tickets to Faerie can be purchased at www.joesmovement.org.

 ABOUT FAERIE

All depicted within the realm of magic, alight puts a lens to centuries of storytelling to feature the multi-dimensionality of these mythical creatures, and tackle misconceptions of how specifically feminine characters are portrayed.

The cast is made up of 8 dancers, including a young Joe’s student. In the performance, the young girl uncovers a group of fairies and takes interest in their world. They are cautious of her at first, only displaying their stereotypical personalities. Slowly, as she gains their trust, they express their true and unique identities.

How can we all feel confident to express ourselves without façade? How can we expand our viewpoint and see what lies outside our typical world?

Faerie was first developed at Joe's Movement Emporium in partnership with The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center as a part of the NextLOOK series.

ABOUT ALIGHT DANCE THEATER

Alight dance theater strives to generate and strengthen community through storytelling – interweaving a movement-based art rooted in collaboration that spans cultures and generations to entertain, illuminate, and educate. Through the lens of innovation, we strive to create dialogue, explore expression, and communicate the heart of one another’s story.

Current Artistic Director Matina Phillips and Associate Artistic Director Eleni Grove develop work aiming to exemplify movement storytelling. Blurring the line between real and abstract, the alight artistic team want their audiences to experience familiar elements of performance, ranging from movement, theme, text, and production elements, while also giving space for personal interpretation by challenging audiences to see past the known. Alight dance theater is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, incorporated in the state of Maryland, and started in 2010 under Founding Artistic Director Angella Foster.
