Roi and Mary Staged Reading Event & Celebration
Featuring a live, dramatic read of a new One Act Play: Roi & Mary, Audience Talk Back, Good Eats, Music & Vibes.
“Roi and Mary” is about the short yet impactful relationship between Amiri Baraka and the woman, who helped him birth the Black Arts Repertory Theater School in Harlem, New York, which was the catalyst for The Black Arts Movement. The play integrates a series of actual letters into the main action of the play. These letters, never before seen by anyone other than Amiri Baraka and the woman he wrote them to, along with the play itself, explore a lesser known and more personal side of iconic poet, playwright, activist Amiri Baraka, that many may be interested in learning about.
