The Anacostia River flows between Prince George’s County and Washington, DC, its watershed extending into Maryland, connecting forests, streams, and living communities. With a history that is colored by colonialism, war, disinvestment, rebirth, reclamation, and joy, the Anacostia River is a critical character in the story of our region.

Drawing inspiration from the river itself, its history, and the people and ecosystems that are connected to it, Joe’s Movement Emporium invites singers and songwriters to craft an original song that honors the Anacostia River.

The 1st place winner will be invited to perform at the Anacostia River Festival on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

Prizes for winners are:
1st = $400; 2nd = $250; 3rd = $100
