Este taller usará música de películas de Disney como Coco, Saludos Amigos, y Encanto, para enseñarle a los niños a cantar y tocar instrumentos de percusión mientras también aprenden sobre los diferentes ritmos, estilos, y géneros de Latinoamérica. El taller será presentado por JChris, cantautor, pianista, y productor de pop Latino reconocido como los mejores de Washington, DC.

El primer concierto de la Serie Cultural Latinoamericana Pa’lante, se enfocará en la cultura de Centroamérica por medio de la música de Elena La Fulana, instrumentalista nominada al Latin Grammy y líder del grupo Elena & Los Fulanos. Acompañen a Elena quien con su música explorará sus raíces y explica el viaje que tomó con su arte para encontrar su propia voz e identidad. This show draws from the past and present using Kujichagulia- Self Determination, as a lens to acknowledge and honor some of our cultural norms from African and African American history. We tell the stories of an African young woman’s Rite of Passage, while honoring the contributions of her life; we honor our Babas through a prayer sung in Xhosa and the South African Gumboot as well as other stories that give a window to our place on this planet in the future.

We show that as Black Americans, these movements feel native to our bodies and connect us to our brothers and sisters across the world. This work aims to highlight the connections between movements throughout and across the African Diaspora. It showcases Black American vernacular movements and Black contemporary dance forms while also infusing social and folk dances across the Caribbean, West Africa, and Southern Africa into movements.

The dances taught are relatively simple and the dance sequences repetitive, so we can experience what the dance has to offer. We invite you to come and view our work-in-progress and offer feedback that will support further development of the work.
